The 25mm M793 target-practice with tracer (TP-T) cartridge is a training round for the M792 HEI-T. The cartridge has a steel case crimped to a projectile assembly. The projectile assembly consists of a steel body, aluminum windscreen, steel rotating band, and tracer pellets. The steel cartridge case contains a percussion primer, booster pellet, and propellant.
The cartridge is fired when the weapon firing pin strikes he percussion primer which in turn initiates the booster pellet and propellant. The burning propellant produces high-pressure gases propelling the projectile from the cartridge case and igniting the tracer. The rotating band of the projectile engages the rifling of the barrel, causing the projectile assembly to spin. As the projectile exits the barrel, it is spin stabilized to the target.
